A Little Sugar on Top

Pleasure isn’t symmetrical - and giving the clit more or less attention on different areas can actually feel much better than treating all parts the same. Most women have certain spots that feel best and giving extra pressure on those spots may be just what’s needed to turn up the pleasure.

It’s like a good back massage—you give the whole back attention but if there’s a knot, it deserves a little extra love.

The visible part of the clit is the tip of an iceberg. It’s beneath the entire surrounding area, so you can be touching it when you’re not directly on what anatomy diagrams call ‘the clit.’

And the exact spot where touch can generate the most pleasure isn’t necessarily dead center or even symmetrical.

Some prefer more attention on the right side, some prefer more on the left side. Even more prefer the top side—but even in a small area like “the top,” many women prefer one side of the top more than the other.

Rather than just lavishing that spot with attention, many women build pleasure from a repeating motion that passes over these hotspots.

And when you’re over that spot that feels best, it’s the star of the show and you can accent that part of the motion with extra pressure or speed for extra pleasure.

You can accent part of any motion. For example, if the left, upper side is the spot that feels best, you could accent that side with more pressure with your stroke, pushing more firmly as you go over that side.

For example, in a repeating up and down motion, you could press more firmly on the downstroke when over that top left side. Preview this motion. Loading motion preview... Stop this motion.

Or in a repeating side-to-side motion, you could push a little deeper into the skin each time you’re on the left. Preview this motion. Loading motion preview... Stop this motion.

Or, instead of pressure, you could accent with speed by moving more quickly and forcefully from left to right, and slower and gentler right to left. Preview this motion. Loading motion preview... Stop this motion.

Or in a repeating oval motion high-up, you could stop and begin each oval with pressure on the top left. Preview this motion. Loading motion preview... Stop this motion.

To give accenting a try, take the repeating motions that you or your partner already enjoy and try adding pressure to just one part of that motion at a time. Accent the top right corner for a while and see how that feels. Then give the top left a try, etc.

Because the spot that feels best can change over time and day to day, some couples make up ways to refer to the different locations.

Some think of it like a clock and accent different parts of the dial. You may find you are (or your partner is) a 3 o’clock-sort-of-a-gal. Or maybe 6 to 9 p.m. is your thing.

You can accent the down or the up on an up/down stroke. Or the left or right on a back-and-forth stroke. Some couples call it “more on the up” or “more on the right.”

In this way, you can search and experiment and find which spots like extra pressure or speed. The basis is the motion you already like—so this is a technique to fine-tune and make that feel even better. Think of it as the most rewarding scavenger hunt of all time.

Bringing it to the Bedroom

Helpful Guidelines

  • Beware the Ouch. It hurts many women to move upward onto the clit since it has no hood to protect below. That’s probably not the best motion to accent with extra pressure.
  • Search High and Low. The favorite spot could be further from the clit than you’d think. Remember that the clit has nerves that go far out under the skin, so the area that likes extra pressure could be more than an inch to the side or above.
  • The Rhythm Is Gonna Move You. Accenting works best with regular, repeated motions. So it’s only when you let one kind of accented touch repeat the same way over and over that it builds up pleasure.

Most Common Challenges

  • Wrong Stage. Accenting is best after warmup, when the clit is awake and ready for stimulation.
  • Trial and Error. Sometimes an accent may not feel good instantly so you disregard it. When experimenting, give a spot ten repetitions of the motion to see if that spot likes extra attention.
  • Too Much Pressure. Remember even adding a tiny bit more pressure can feel incredibly different.
  • Here Today, Gone Tomorrow. Like an itch that can come and go, the spot that feels best can appear and disappear and move around.
